Perry Bernard Chamness, 79, of Blairsburg, Iowa passed away at his home in Blairsburg on Thursday, May 21, 2009. A Memorial service will be held on Saturday May 30, 2009 at 11:30 a.m. at Asbury United Methodist Church in Webster City, Iowa with Reverend Linda Bibb and Father Scott Boone officiating. There will be no visitation. Arrangements were made with the Foster Funeral and Cremation Center in Webster City, Iowa.

Perry was born in Bradley, Ill. on June 30, 1929 to Perry Francis and Anne (Skube) Chamness. He attended school in Bradley, Illinois. Perry served in the Coast Guard and Army. He was stationed in Korea and decorated with 2 purple hearts. Perry married Oletha Lary in New Mexico on Dec. 22, 1952. Perry worked as a volunteer fireman, police officer in Bradley and Joliet, Illinois, before his employment of 27 years as a supervisor with Roper Corporation in Bradley, Illinois. Upon retirement the couple moved to Hollywood, Florida then to Linden, Tennessee and for the past ten years have resided in rural Blairsburg, Iowa.

Perry leaves behind his wife of 56 years, Oletha of Blairsburg, Iowa and their seven children, Rick (Pat) of Monon, Ind.; Kathy (Phil) Tarmann of Granville, Ill.; Gary (Nicole) of Blairsburg; Mark (Denise) of Palmyra, Maine; Mona (Bob) Beck of Potomac, Ill.; Dianne Chamness of Pinebush, NY; and Natalie (Greg) Statler of Cullom, Ill.; grandchildren, Melissa (Steve) Faletti, Adam (Stephanie) Tarmann, Alex Tarmann, Jeremy Martin, Jennifer (Beau) Acton, Peter Chamness, Eric Chamness, Mackenzie Chamness, Andrew Chamness, Michael Nielsen, Natalie Nielsen, Tiffany Chamness, Stephen Chamness, Truman Chamness, Lillian Chamness and Olivia Statler; great grandchildren, Lauren Faletti, Preston Faletti, and Stella Tarmann. Brothers, Francis (Henrietta) Chamness, Gerald (Frieda) Chamness; and sister, Maxine Cassidy all of Bourbonnais, Ill.

Perry was preceded in death by his parents Perry and Ann and one brother, Delbert Chamness.

In retirement, Perry enjoyed fishing, watching Chicago Cubs and other sports on TV, attending activities that his grandchildren were involved in, gardening, sitting in the sun, attending mass and being with fellow Bingo playing friends. Perry was a member of the Bradley, Illinois Veterans group and St. Mary's Catholic Church in Williams.

Memorials may be given to the Northeast Hamilton School building project, Alzheimer Association or the American Diabetes Association.
