Edward E. Stewart, 90, of Webster City, died Wednesday, December 20, 2006 at the Southfield Wellness Community. Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Asbury United Methodist Church, with Rev. Pete Peterson officiating. Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday at the Burt Cemetery at Burt. Visitation will be at the Foster Funeral and Cremation Center from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday. Military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post # 191 at the church.

Edward Everett Stewart, son of David and Eva Jain Stewart was born August 5, 1916 at Burt, Iowa. He attended Portland Township rural school for eight years and graduated from Burt High School. He was an all-state shortstop in high school and was on two state tournament teams in baseball and two state tournament teams in wrestling. He also received a BS at Iowa State Teachers College where he was on the wrestling team for four years. He received his MA at State College at Greeley, Colo. He was involved with education for a total of 34 years. He taught at Grimes

for one year, Swea City for 23 years and Central Webster at Burnside for 10 years. The last 26 years were as superintendent of schools. He served in the U.S. Army during

W.W. II for nearly 5 years, entering as a private and discharged as a Major. He served in the European Theatre of Action and had occupational duties at Japan immediately after VJ Day. The last three years he was commander of Battery C, 365th Field Artillery Battalion, 97th Infantry Division. He was married to Kathryn Elvidge on June 15, 1942 while stationed at Lawton, Oklahoma.

Mr. Stewart is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Linda Stewart of New Albany, IN; Charles and Mary Stewart of Cincinnati, OH; Jack and Rhonda Stewart of Ankeny, IA; 8 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; several niece and nephews.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Elbert, Wilbur, Roscoe, Wilfred and Oliver Stewart; sisters, Eva, Verna and Alice.

His hobbies included following baseball, especially the St. Louis Cardinals and Football. He spent time reading, hiking walking, playing golf and bridge. The last 20 years, he spent his winters in Texas. He was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church, Webster City Lions Club, Iowa and American Association of School Administrators and the American Legion Post # 191.

Memorials may be directed to the Hamilton County Hospice/Respite.
