James C. Roe, 83, of Webster City, died Wednesday, October 17, 2007 at Trinity Regional Medical Center at Fort Dodge. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church at Williams, with Rev. Robert Ahlstrom officiating. Private burial will be in the Rose Grove Cemetery before the memorial service. Graveside military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post # 633 of Williams. Visitation will be private. Arrangements were made with the Foster Funeral and Cremation Center.

James Cornelius Roe, Jr., son of James and Martha Vespestad Roe, was born May 27, 1924 on a farm southwest of Williams. He attended rural school, Rose Grove # 4, and graduated from Ellsworth Independent School in 1941. He started farming with his father. He served in the U.S. Army from 1945 to 1946 and was stationed in Hawaii. Following his discharge, he farmed with his father and also engaged in carpentry work with his father, building barns and corn cribs. He had farmed in the Rose Grove area and north of Williams. He retired in the Fall of 1987 and moved to Webster City. After retirement, he spent his leisure time at his cabin near Park Rapids, MN.

James is survived by his sister, Elsie Baumann of Ames; brother and sister-in-law, Keith and Eunice Roe of Vestal, NY; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Grace Huisman; brother, Raymond Roe; brother-in-law, David Baumann.

He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, he enjoyed fishing and family times, was a member of American Legion Post # 633 and was secretary-treasurer for the Rose Grove Cemetery Association for many years.
