Elvin Johnson, 80, Ellsworth, died Saturday, Jan. 3, 2009, at his home in Ellsworth. Memorial services are 1 p.m. Thursday at the Community Church of Kamrar. Visitation is Wednesday evening from 5:30-8 p.m. at the Community Church of Kamrar. Elvin deeded his body to Des Moines University. Burial of his cremated remains will take place at a later date. Becker Funeral and Cremation Service of Jewell is assisting the Johnson family.

Elvin Henry Johnson was born Aug. 26, 1928, in Ackley, Iowa to Rev. Henry and Alice (Greenfield) Johnson. He graduated from Waukon High School in 1946, and attended Dubuque University. He farmed near Waukon in Allamakee County and married Evelyn Kruger in 1950 before moving to Ellsworth where he continued farming. Elvin was the Area Director of Organization for the National Farmers Union in the states of Kansas and Michigan among others. After 47 years of marriage, Evelyn passed away on April 4, 1997. Elvin later married Elizabeth Kruger. He was a member of the Community Church of Kamrar and enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren.

Elvin is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Johnson of Ellsworth; children, Carol (Martin) Johnson-Marlowe of Houston, Texas, David (Gwen) Johnson of Ellsworth, Leah (David) Hove of Jewell; grandchildren, Sarah (Barry) Scott of Hudson and Allison Johnson of Ellsworth; sister-in-law, Esther (Willard) Snitker; and brother-in-law, Emmett (Marjorie) Kruger all of Postville. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Evelyn Johnson, and a son in infancy
