Kathleen Peterson, 90, Stanhope, died Thursday, Jan. 30, 2003, at Crestview Senior Living. Funeral services were held Monday at the Foster Funeral Home with Rev. Rick Morris officiating. Burial was in the Graceland Cemetery.
Kathleen Ross, daughter of Frank and Winnie Eaton Ross, was born Jan. 2, 1913 at Fountain Run, Ky. She came with her family in 1928 to the Stanhope area. In 1929, she married Richard Hill. The couple resided at Stanhope. They later divorced. In 1936, she married Theodore Peterson and the couple farmed in the Stanhope area. She was a farm wife for 23 years, The couple was later divorced. She owned and operated a variety store at Stanhope for 7 years and worked in food services at Iowa State University for 11 years, retiring in 1982.
Mrs. Peterson is survived by her daughter, Maribeth Hill, Stanhope; grandchildren and spouses, Steve and Lori Hill of Omaha, Neb., Pam and Rob Swenson of Williams, Chris and Jill Hill of Ames; great-grandchildren, Austen, Aaron and Sydney Hill, Ryan, Tyler and Collin Swenson, Quentin and McKenzie Hill; brother, Don Ross of Webster City; sisters, Edna Helmick of Eagle Grove; La Verne Sims of Silver Springs, MD; Marilyn Reamsnyder of Maryland; several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her son, Ross Howard Hill, 1994; a sister, Willy Davis; brothers, Jack and Bob Ross.
She was a member of the Stanhope Parish where she served as a deaconess and was active in the Christian Women's Fellowship, She was always active in community affairs and after retirement from ISU, was a volunteer for Job Service and RSVP. She was a former member of the YMW Club. Her cooking fame was her kringla and loved sharing it. She also enjoyed her flowers, feeding the birds and was an avid sports fan.
