Leland K. Kennedy, 74, a retired Williams area farmer, died Saturday June 7, 2003 at Hamilton Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the First Presbyterian Church east of Kamrar, with Rev. John Wilson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be at the Foster Funeral Home from 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and after 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church. A prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Leland Kenneth Kennedy, son of Kenneth and Luella Havinga Kennedy, was born Feb. 11, 1929 on a farm east of Kamrar. He attended Kamrar Elementary and graduated from Williams Independent High School in 1946. He started grain farming and pork production with his father. On August 4, 1948, he married Nancy JoAnn Johnson at Williams. The couple farmed south of Williams. In 1965, they purchased a farm southwest of Williams. He retired from farming in 1996.
Mr. Kennedy is survived by his wife, JoAnn; daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Lon Hensley, Williams; son and daughter-in-law, Kent and Pamela Kennedy of DeWitt; grandchildren, Jason and Kim Hensley of Williams; Rachel and Quin Otteros of Blairsburg; Nathan and Sarah Hensley of Waterloo; Jordan Hensley of Williams; Laura Kennedy of Iowa City, Kathleen and Andrew Kennedy of DeWitt; great-grandchildren, Melanie and Devin Hensley. He was preceded in death by his parents.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, where he served as deacon, trustee, elder, clerk of sessions and catechism teacher. He also was a Master Swine Producer in 1963 and played for the Williams Merchants Softball team. He was an avid hunter. His greatest enjoyment was witnessing the accomplishments of his family.
