Vincent Joseph "Vince" Wemhoff, 86, Moberly, Mo., died Friday, Sept. 26, 2008 at Moberly Regional Medical Center. He had been in failing health.

Mr. Wemhoff was born Jan. 18, 1922, in Humphrey, Neb., where he was also raised. He was the son of Theodore and Mary Wieser Wemhoff. Vince served as a sergeant and mechanic in the Army Air Force from 1942-1946 and received an honorable discharge. He was one of the mechanics for General Omar Bradley's personal aircraft when flying in the United States.

Mr. Wemhoff married Leila Short on Dec. 28, 1946 in Webster City. They lived in Humphrey, Neb. for three years before moving to the Higbee area in 1951 and then to Moberly in 1983. He was engaged in a career of farming and real estate sales working with Callison Real Estate of Clarence, Mo., and TM Riffle Agency of Moberly, Mo.

Mr. Wemhoff was a member of the St. Pius X Catholic Church where he served as a board member for the St. Pius X School. He was also active in many community activities including being a board member of the Randolph County Soil and Water District, and Randolph County Farmers' Mutual Insurance as well as a committeeman for Randolph County Agriculture Stablizing and Conservation Service.

Survivors include his wife, Leila of the home, sons Don and wife Donna Wemhoff of Columbia, Mo., Merl and wife Linda Wemhoff of Clark, Mo., Kenny and wife Diana Wemhoff, Stanley Wemhoff and Bruce Wemhoff, all of Moberly; daughter Beth and husband Jay Johnson of Hallandale Beach, Fla., 16 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, sisters, Fay Krings of Humphrey, Neb., Margaret and husband Bill Broadgate of Lincoln, Neb., Theresa and husband Hal Hensle of El Cajon, Calif., brothers Gerald and wife Marci Wemhoff of Omaha, Neb., Ray and wife Lenore Wemhoff of Humphrey, Neb.; sisters-in-law, Marian Wemhoff and Marie Wemhoff; nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Mr. Wemhoff was preceded in death by his parents, several brothers and sisters, and a daughter-in-law, Diana Hunsaker Wemhoff.

Memorials would be appreciated to The Christos Center, 111 No. 5th St., Moberly, Mo. 65270

Services will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Pius X Catholic Church with entombment and military honos at St. Mary's Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, 3-7 p.m. with a prayer service at 6:45 p.m. at Cater Funeral Home.
