Dorothy Jones passed away early Sunday, September 21, 2008 at Trinity Regional Hospital, following a lengthy recovery from heart surgery. Celebration of Life will be held at the Church of Christ at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Church of Christ from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday and prior to the service at the church.

Dorothy Elaine Schweppe, daughter of Ernest & Lottie (Miller) Schweppe, was born April 9, 1924 at Webster City. She received her education in the Webster City school system graduating from Lincoln High in 1942. She also attended Webster City Junior College. On June 3, 1945, she married Richard Jones at the Church Of Christ. She served as deputy auditor for Hamilton County before following her husband to New Jersey, where he was in the U.S. Army. Following his discharge, the couple farmed south of Webster City before purchasing a local store they renamed Jones Sporting Goods. The couple operated the store for 24 years. She then became a housemaker.

Dorothy served as a volunteer at the Hamilton Hospital Gift Shop and was a member of the Church of Christ, Order of the Eastern Star and White Shrine as well as Chapter NR of P.E.O. and the Webster City Women's Club.

Dorothy and Dick raised two children, daughter, Linda (Jones) Toering, who died of cancer in 2003 and son, Loren Jones of Webster City. Her family also includes Linda's husband, Rich Toering and family, Janet and Ryan of Ames; granddaughter Melissa (Toering) Pulis, her husband, Matt and children, Megan and Mason of Lee's Summit, MO; and Sid & Katie Toering, Emily and Neil of Faribault, MN.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked memorials be made in Dorothy's name to the Webster City Church of Christ or Hamilton County Relay for Life (in honor of her daughter, Linda).
