MORGART

Vernon R. Morgart, 54, of Barnes City, died Monday, Feb. 17, at his home in Barnes City.

His funeral service was Friday, Feb.21, in the Barnes City Community Life Center Church with Pastor Jim Sears officiating. Interment was in the Volga Cemetery, Volga, Iowa, on Saturday, Feb. 22. Watts Funeral Home of Montezuma was in charge of the arrangements.

Casket bearers were Gary Anderson, Tom Anderson, Richard Allen, Paul Johnson, Marvin Freeborn and John Westercamp.

He was born Sept. 2, 1948, at Marshalltown, the son of John and Letha Nablo Morgart. He graduated from South Hamilton High School in 1966, and then graduated from Iowa State University in 1972 with a bachelor's degree in agriculture. Following graduation, he worked at Kiowa Corporation as a furnace operator, and later worked for Mesquawki Casino in Tama as a janitor. Lastly, he worked at the Barnes City Community Life Center Church as a janitor. He was an avid Iowa State Cyclone fan. He also enjoyed reading western books, fishing, playing chess, playing cards, and he loved to bowl. His true love was spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by a son and his wife, Lester (and Kelly) Anderson of Marshalltown; three daughters, Lara Morgart of Clinton; Marlene Mitchell and her husband Ronald of Clinton; and Geri Morgart of Clinton; seven grandchildren; his mother, Letha Morgart of Marshalltown; three brothers and their wives, Bill (and Vera) Morgart of Bettendorf; Jerry (and Gini) Morgart of Broomfield, Colo.; and Marvin (and Dolores) Morgart of Story City; three sisters and their husbands, Darlene (and Steve) Hamelau of Alexandria, Minn.; Rose Elsbecker of Marshalltown and Mary (and Dennis) Borton of LeGrand; 12 nieces and nephews, and other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his father; one son in infancy, John Raymond, and a brother, Kevin Morgart.
