Dorothy Donahue, 74, of Kamrar, died Monday, July 28, 2008 at Hamilton Hospital. A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Faith United Methodist Church, with Revs. Mike Willer and Bruce Ursin officiating. Burial will be in the Presbyterian Cemetery, east of Kamrar. Visitation will be at the Faith United Methodist Church from 5-8 p.m. Thursday and prior to the service at the church on Friday.

Dorothy Louise Welp, daughter of Eppo and Bertha Mechaelsen Welp, was born November 11,1933 on a farm near Kamrar. She graduated from Kamrar High School in 1951. She earned a teaching certificate from Iowa Wesleyan College at Mount Pleasant and received a B.A. in Education from Drake University in 1968. The Iowa Girls Athletic Association named her "Legandary". She was an All-State basketball player for 5 years, playing as Guard and forward. She was inducted into the Iowa State Hall of Fame in 1961. She was the first All American at Iowa Wesleyan College in 1952. In 1952, she married Walter Donahue of Monroe. In her early years of teaching, she was in the Des Moines area. She taught at Northeast Hamilton for 35 years, retiring in 1994.

Dorothy is survived by her husband, Walt; daughter, Dr. Deb Riehle and Chuck of Cedar Falls; son, Steve and Sheril Donahue of Normal, IL; grandchildren, Dr. Bindy Comito and Sean Sornsin of Phoenix, AZ; Casey Donahue of Edwardsville, IL; Austin Donahue of Normal, IL; brothers and sister-in-law, Lloyd and Evonne Welp of Davenport; Ed Welp of Ames; sister, Jean Daniell of Branson, MO; sister-in-law, Dorothy Welp of Glenwood; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Willis and Marion Welp; sisters, Irene Fonken and Helen Welp.

She was a member of Kamrar United Methodist Church, Delta Kappa Gamma, P.E.O. and the Kamrar United Methodist Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Kamrar United Methodist Church and Iowa Wesleyan College.
