Roger Hanson, age 86, passed away on Monday, August 4, 2008. A memorial service will be held 6:30 p.m. Friday, August 8, 2008, at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Jewell. Visitation is at the church from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. prior to the service. Becker Funeral and Cremation Service entrusted with arrangements.

Roger was born Friday, February 17, 1922, in Jewell, Iowa to Leonard and Josephine (Priske) Hanson. He was a resident of Hamilton County his entire life. He was baptized and confirmed at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Jewell. Roger graduated from Jewell High School in 1940.

On December 12, 1943 he married Peggy Rex at the Federated Church in Jewell. They farmed south and west of Jewell until 1991. Roger was a long time volunteer fireman with the Jewell Fire Department. He farmed the ground that became the Jewell Golf and Country Club and was an avid golfer. He also enjoyed bowling and ballroom dancing. Roger and Peggy enjoyed wintering in Texas for many years.

Roger is survived by his wife of 64 years, Peggy; four children, Pamela Duncan of North Carolina, Robert (Lisbeth) of Minnesota, Betty Jo (Daryl) Lamfers of Arizona, and Jane (Neil) Whetstone of Ankeny; grandchildren, Michelle Duncan of North Carolina, Lee (Dina) Duncan of Washington, Bobbi Hanson of Minnesota, Mia Hanson of Minnesota, Dawna Jo (Daniel) Davis of Arizona, Dirk Lamfers of Arizona, Sara Franz of Washington, Kema (Mike) Davis of Ankeny; and seven great grandchildren, Connor, Bobby, Kaid, Delmar, Leilani, Kaden, and Carson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, LaVerne, and a sister-in-law Kathleen.
