Terry Roberts, 68, of Eldon, died at 4:45 a.m. July 17, 2008 at his riverside home with his wife and children at his side, after a short battle with cancer.

He was born August 28, 1939 in Lake City, IA to George P. and Lottie McClain Roberts. He married Sharon Leopold August 28, 1960.

A 1957 graduate of Lincoln High School in Webster City, he played center in the Iowa High School Basketball Tournament for two years. He also played center on the Iowa State University basketball team from 1958 to 1961. He earned a B.S in 1961 and a M.A. in Administration in 1963 from Iowa State University.

His teaching and coaching career started at George, IA, followed by tenure at Corning, IA. His first principal position was at Massena, IA, followed by Cardinal of Eldon from 1973 to 1997.

He enjoyed his family, friends and his pups. His hobbies were buying and selling antiques, hunting, fishing and reading.

He will be very deeply missed.

Surviving is his wife, Sharon; two sons, Mike (Lori) Roberts of Eldora and David (Diane) Roberts of Macon, MO; a daughter, Dr. Teresa (Chris) Brown of Eldora; six grandchildren, Janet Roberts, Jackie Roberts, Seth Brown, Sarah Brown, Hunter Roberts and Allison Roberts; a sister, Marilyn Karn of Lake City, IA; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother, Neil Roberts.

According to his wishes, cremation has been accorded and burial of his cremains will take place later in Webster City.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his name to the Cardinal Athletic Club, the Gothic House in Eldon or McGaffrey Opera House in Eldon.
