A funeral Mass for Larry J. Doocy, 60 of Fort Dodge, formerly of Lone Rock will be 10:30 AM Wednesday at St. John’s Catholic Church in Bancroft, with Father Paul D. Bormann officiating. Burial will be in St. John’s Catholic Cemetery, Bancroft with military honors conducted by the Lone Rock American Legion. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 PM Tuesday at Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home, Bancroft with a scripture prayer service beginning at 4 PM.

Larry James Doocy was born January 14, 1948 in Emmetsburg son of Nicholas and Anna Marie (Lampe) Doocy. He grew up on a farm west of Bancroft graduating from St. John’s High School in 1966. Larry then served his country in the army during Vietnam being stationed in Germany.

Larry died Friday evening, May 30, 2008 in Fort Dodge following a mishap in the crew pits at Mineral City Speedway in Fort Dodge. He was 60 years 4 months and 16 days old.

Larry returned to the area and worked with his father as a mechanic at Doocy Repair in Lone Rock. In 1981 he built a new shop and operated it with his brother Arden. In April of 2006, the business was sold to their nephew.

On December 4, 2004 Larry was united in marriage to Marilyn Matteson in Webster City. They made their home in Fort Dodge where he was working at Fort Dodge Transmission. Larry’s family was very important to him. He enjoyed golfing and playing cards and was very passionate about restoring antique cars and street rods, and auto racing. Larry was active in his community of Lone Rock serving many years on the City Council and the Fire Department. He also was a member of the Lone Rock American Legion and a past member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Bancroft.

He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Doocy of Fort Dodge; her three children, Matthew Matteson, Marty Matteson, and Leah Matteson and grandson, Gunnar Matteson all of Webster City. He is also survived by his mother, Anna Doocy of Lone Rock; six brothers and sisters, Yvonne Talano and her husband Theodore of Tucson, AZ, Richard Doocy, Donald Doocy, and Arden Doocy all of Lone Rock, David Doocy and his wife Mary of Bancroft, and Linda Vogt and her husband Randy of Oakdale, MN; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father; a brother, John in infancy; and a sister-in-law Charlotte Doocy.
