Richard H. King, 82, of Woolstock, died Saturday, June 7, 2008 at the Trinity Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at Asbury United Methodist Church, with Rev. Pete Peterson officiating. Visitation will be one hour before the service. Arrangements were made with the Foster Funeral and Cremation Center. Military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post # 553.

Richard Howard King, son of Moroni and Mabel Norcross King, was born March 9, 1926 at Woolstock. He received his education in the Woolstock Public School, graduating in 1943. He joined the U.S. Navy and served from 1943 to 1946 as an engine man LSM 299. From 1969 to 1977, he served with the Naval Reserves, then in October of 1977, he joined the Iowa National Guard, retiring in 1986 as a Staff Sergeant.

On March 9, 1946, he married Mildred LuElla Hilpipre at Webster City. The couple farmed northeast of Woolstock, then farmed for 7 years near Plainfield, WI. While there he also owned a bar and worked at Nekoose Paper Company. He owned a Citgo Service Station while they lived at Stevens Point, WI. They moved to Boone in 1968 and he worked as a mechanic. In 1970, they moved to Webster City and he worked as a welder for Maudlin Construction and Giese Ready Mix. They moved to their retirement home at Woolstock in 1988. Mrs. King died March 21, 1994 and he continued to reside at Woolstock.

Mr. King is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Joan and Harold Brown of Webster City; Janet and Robert Wilke, Jill Comara, all from Winona, MN; grandchildren, Candy and Jason Steuerwald of Webster City; Joshua and Jacob Wilke, both of Winona; great granddaughter, Sierra Steuerwald; brothers and sisters-in-law, Clifford and Doris King of Manly; McKinley and Marge King of Cedar Falls; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; great grandson, Alex Steuerwald; brothers, Keith and Elston (Buster) King.

He was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church, the LSM 299 Reunion Group and American Legion Post # 553 of Woolstock.
