Florence Mae (Kent) Hill, 98, of Stanhope,Iowa, died Tuesday, March 11, 2008 at the Hiawatha Care Center, Hiawatha, Iowa. A Celebration Of Life will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Stanhope,

Iowa, with Rev. Joe Lambert officiating. Burial will be in the Lawn Hill Cemetery, southeast of Stanhope. Visitation will be at the Foster Funeral and Cremation Center from 5-8 p.m. Friday and after 11 a.m. Saturday at the church.

Florence Mae Kent, daughter of George and Lulu (Mead) Hook Kent, was born October 26, 1909 on a farm northwest of Stanhope. She attended rural schools in that area and graduated from Lincoln High inWebster City, IA. She worked for Dr. Rambo in Webster City. On November 29, 1933, she married Idres Marlin Hill at the Lutheran parsonage in Stanhope. The couple farmed east of Stanhope, then for 4 years northwest of Stanhope near Sharkey’s Hill (The River Farm). She was a homemaker. In 1941, following the death of Idres’ father they moved to the family farm at Lakins Grove Avenue. After semi-retiring, they spent winters in Arizona for 27 years. Idres died August 10, 2006. After Idres’ death her children were honored to care for her in their homes until she broke her hip November 30 of 2007. She had resided at the Hiawatha Care Center for only 3 months.

Florence is survived by her children, Patrica and Alan Arends of Albert Lea, MN; Kent and Betty Hill of Marion, IA; Kay and Shirley Hill of Springville, IA; Jacqueline and Tom Bailey of Riverside,IA; Karla and Robert Brown of Marion, IA; Karma and Kirk Bailey of Kalona, IA; 20
grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; sister, V. Georgene Wilson of Holmdel, NJ; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; brothers and sisters, Ivan, Theodore and Caryl Kent; Floral Morgan and Floy Rexroat and a grandson, Seth Bailey.

She was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Ladies Aid, Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, church circles and various activities within the church. They enjoyed ballroom dancing and playing bridge. She especially loved her life with Idres and her family. She will always be remembered as a loving and kind wife, mother, grandmother and friend. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Our Savior’s Lutheran Church or Hospice.
