George B. Aden, 98, a longtime attorney and banker, of Webster City, died Wednesday, February 25, 2004, at Crestview Senior Living at Webster City. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Asbury United Methodist Church, with Revs. Ron Kitterman and Steve Shelley, officiating. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery, at Webster City, prior to the service. Visitation will be at Foster Funeral Home from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday.
George Bogert Aden, son of Hinrich and Ankes Antons Aden, was born January 4, 1906 on a farm west of Pomeroy, Iowa. He attended Pomeroy Public School graduating in 1922 and graduated from Drake University in 1928 with a Juris Doctorate Degree and started practicing law that same year. It was a happenstance that car trouble was the reason for his locating at Webster City to practice
law. While having a tire repaired, he learned that O.J. Henderson, had recently been appointed District Judge. An interview with him resulted in his locating in Henderson’s office, where he practiced law for several years.
While engaged in his law practice, he met Mara Mae Throckmorton, a music teacher in the Webster City schools. They were married June 28, 1933 at Des Moines and resided at Webster City. He served as county attorney from 1933 to 1941 and was founder and director of the Webster City Savings and Loan Association. In 1943, he retired from his law practice and partnered with George Alexander in the Farmers National Bank, where he served as trust officer, assistant cashier, cashier, vice-president and director. In 1952, he was one of the founders of Friendship Haven at Fort Dodge and served as a Trustee Emeritus. Farmers National Bank was sold in 1965 and he continued to serve as
executive vice president and director. He retired from banking in December of 1978. Mrs. Aden died September 30, 1994. George had resided at Crestview Senior Living since March of 1999.
Mr. Aden is survived by daughter and son-in-law, DeAnne and Fred Richards of Richardson, Tx.; grandsons, Fred F. (Rick) Richards III of Plano, Tx., Craig Aden Richards of Mesquite, Tx.; Jeffrey Joel Richards of Redmond, Wa.; 8 great-grandchildren; a niece, Jeanne Herrmann was raised in the Aden home and lives at Delmar, New York; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by brother, Henry J. Aden; sisters, Ellen Marie Aden; Tina Marcella Moulton and Anne Mohr.
His church and organization activities include: Asbury United Methodist Church and many church offices; treasurer - city of Webster City for over 25 years; treasurer - Hamilton County Fair Association for several years; Sigma Alpha Epsilon, while at Drake; Acacia Masonic Lodge
# 176, past worshipful master; Worthy Patron of Sharon Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star; trustee for the Teresa Treat Stearns Trust and the Homer G. Barr Trust; helped in the development of Fuller Hall; 1928 joined the Noon Kiwanis Club and served as president in 1933, he had a 70-year perfect attendance, received the Legion of Merit and was a Kiwanis Hixon Fellow.
The family wants to express their sincere gratitude to Nona Cormaney, for her 12 years of compassionate care given to Mr. Aden.
