Theresa Schutt, 91, of Belmond, a former Woolstock resident, died Tuesday, November 27, 2007 at the Belmond Healthcare Center. A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the First Congregational – U.C.C. at Webster City, with Rev. Howard Hunt officiating. Private family burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be one hour before the service, at the church, on Saturday.

Theresa Alice Klaas, daughter of Franklin and Alice Borel Klaas,was born August 3, 1916 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Webster City. She attended rural schools and graduated from Lincoln High at Webster City in 1933. She attended Ellsworth Junior College at Iowa Falls for two years then went on to Cornell College at Mount Vernon, receiving an education degree in 1937. She taught in rural schools in Wright County. On August 7, 1940, She married Glenn A. Schutt in Portland, Oregon. The couple farmed east of Woolstock until their retirement. Mr. Schutt died in September of 1975.

Mrs. Schutt is survived by a daughter, Elyse Hetland of Downey, CA; son and daughter-in-law, Klaas (Andy) and Marilyn Schutt of Clarion; granddaughter and spouse, Charyl and Robert Edmond of Downey, CA; step-grandson and spouse, David and Angie Halblom of Norwalk and 4 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, and son-in-law, Daryl Hetland.

She was a member of the First Congregational – U.C.C., a charter member of the Webster City Town and Country Garden Club; she started the wildflower trail at Briggs Woods; she served for many years on various boards of the State Federated Garden Clubs of Iowa; she was along time volunteer at the Iowa Arboretum, donating and nuturing many varieties of hostas and herbs. She also was a member of the State Horticultural Society and held the Honor Award from this group. She was a well known flower show judge and judged many county fairs, special events and the Iowa State Fair. At the Iowa Arboretum at Madrid, the Theresa Schutt Hosta House was named in her honor.
