Earl Edward Geitz, Sr, age 67 of Williams died Wednesday, November 28th at the Ellsworth Municipal Hospital in Iowa Falls. Funeral services will be 11:00 am. Monday at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Iowa Falls with burial at the Belmond Cemetery in Belmond. Visitation will be from 2:00pm-5:00pm. Sunday at the Surls Funeral Home in Iowa Falls.
Earl was born on May 17, 1940 in Webster City, the son of Walter and Helen (Biermann) Geitz. He graduated from Williams High School and Iowa State University. He served in the Iowa Army National Guard. On April 5, 1964 Earl was united in marriage to Gerri Turner at the First Methodist Church in Eagle Grove. Earl’s first love was being a farmer and also driving a semi-truck later in life. He was a member of the North Iowa Antique Tractor Club; Iowa Draft Pony Assoc.; Pony of America Assoc.; Iowa High School Athletic Assoc.; Iowa Pork Producers; and St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Webster City. The activities Earl enjoyed in his life were driving a Ford Coupe racecar, playing fast pitch softball with the Kamrar Merchant Softball Team and slow pitch softball with the St. Paul's Lutheran Church League Team. Earl was a High School Baseball/Softball Umpire, Superintendent of the Horse Barn at the Hamilton Co. Fair, a 4-H Leader and showed Draft Ponies at the Iowa State Fair. Earl loved watching and attending his children’s and grandchildren’s activities and sporting events.
Earl is survived by his wife, Gerri; two sons, Ed and his wife, Cheri of Iowa Falls and their children, Katie, Rebecca and Alex; and Rick and his wife, Stef of McLean, IL; a daughter, Deann Geistler and her husband, Jim of Norwalk and their children, Michael and Daniel; a sister, Janet (Geitz) Behn and her husband, Bill of Marion and nephew Jason Strohman of Cedar Rapids. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Robert Geitz.
