Myles S. Mason, 87, Webster City, died Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2003 at the Southfield Wellness Community. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Graceland Cemetery with Rev. Steve Shelley officiating. Visitation will be at the Foster Funeral Home from 6-8 p.m. Friday. Military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post #191.
Myles Silvers Mason, son of Joseph and Lola Silvers Mason, was born June 26, 1916 at Webster City. He attended Cole and Prairie Mound rural schools, During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theatre of Action. On April 12, 1945, he married Lois Desher of Fort Dodge. The couple farmed south of Webster City. He also operated a custom trucking business. He retired in 1998 due to failing health. He entered Southfield in October, 2002. The couple had wintered in Phoenix for more than 30 years.
Mr. Mason is survived by his wife, Lois; son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Karen Mason of Webster City; daughter Linda VanSickel of Crofton, Md., five grandchildren, one great-granddaughter; brother, Masil Mason of Ellicott City, Md. He was preceded in death by his sister, Marjorie Carsey.
He was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church and had received a 55 year certificate from the American Legion.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be given to Asbury United Methodist Church and Meals on Wheels.
