Dwayne Harlan Hill

Dwayne Harlan Hill was born April 18, 1914, to Jesse and Ida Hill. He grew to manhood on the family farm near Ellsworth, along with his brothers, Alvern and Ivan.

On September 30, 1941, he was united in marriage to Hyla Oppedal, who was his wife, companion, and closest friend for the past 50 years.

Together they raised three sons: David, Donald and Mark, all of whom continue to reside in Ellsworth.

Dwayne counted as a special blessing his five grandchildren: Heidi, Heather, Melanie, Kendra, and Seth.

His life ended at home in Bonita Beach, Florida, on March 10, 1992. He is now at peace after a long and difficult illness. His courage during his suffering was an inspiration to all who knew him. Right to the end he maintained his kindness, his unselfish concern for those around him, and his deep Christian faith.

Dwayne was a farmer all of his life. He loved the land, and he passed that love on to his family. He also had business interest in banking and insurance, and was very active in community and church affairs. He served on numerous boards and committee, and developed a wide circle of friends.

To all of those whose lives he touch, he will be remembered as a man of faith, judgment, and character. Possessed of kindness and compassion, he was a man greatly admired. As a husband, father, and grandfather he was without equal.

He will be greatly missed, but not forgotten.

Memorial services were held on March 12, 1992 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Ellsworth. Interment was at the Homewood Cemetery, Ellsworth.
