Lela Mae Barr

Lela Mae Barr, 67, Nevada, formerly of Jewell, died March 2, 1995, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Services were held on Tuesday, March 7 at the Federated United Church of Christ in Jewell, the Rev. H. Dean Stille officiated. Burial was in the Jackson Township Cemetery near Owasa in Hardin County.

Lela Mae Kolbus, daughter of George Christian and Annie Mae (Tomlinson) Kolbus, was born Aug. 18, 1927 in Nevada. She grew up in the Maxwell area, moving with her family to the Iowa Falls area in 1943. She graduated from Owasa High School, Ellsworth College in Iowa falls and the Deaconess School of Nursing in Marshalltown.

On Sept. 25, 1955, she married William George Barr in Owasa. They had lived in the Ames and Nevada area, where she was a registered nurse for Mary Greeley Medical Center and Bethany Manor in Story City, retiring in 1991. She resided in Jewell from 1971 until last year.

She is survived by her husband; sons, George of Webster City and Carl of Omaha, Neb.; daughters, Catherine Barr of Waterloo and Mary Moore of Gilbert; step-son, William Reckhemmer of Ashdown, Ark.; four granddaughters, two grandsons; four great-granddaughters; and her father. She was preceded in death by her mother and son, Steve.
