Walter M. Tapper, 89, Webster City, died Tuesday, April 8, 2003 at Southfield Wellness Community. Graveside services will be held Friday at Graceland Cemetery at 2 p.m. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the Foster Funeral Home.
Walter Melbourne Tapper, son of Jake and Hannah Stoppelmoor Tapper, was born Oct. 3, 1913 on a farm east of Webster City. He attended rural schools in the Webster City area. On Nov. 28, 1938, he married Ethel Smid at Franklin, KY. The couple resided at Webster City. Mr. Tapper was owner/operator of Tapper Transfer Truck line. He also was a cattle buyer and raised cattle. Mr. Tapper retired in 1993.
He is survived by his wife, Ethel, daughters and son-in-law, Roberta Johnson of Des Moines, Barbara and Ed Neibauer of Spearfish, SD, grandchildren, Kristin Thomas, Alec and Jackie Johnson, all of Des Moines; Matt Neibauer of Fort Collins, Colo., Dani Neibauer of Phoenix, Ariz., and four great-grandchildren.
Mr. Tapper was preceded in death by his parents. He was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church.
