MR. MCFARLAND PASSES

Samuel McFarland, father of Mrs. W. C. Andrews of this place and Earl McFarland living east of town, passed away at his home at Webster City Tuesday afternoon, after an illness lasting three years. Mr. McFarland lived at Homer at the time and was taken down with the flu. He apparently recovered from that deisease but it left him with a bad cough, and later this developed into tuberculosis. He has been confined to his bed for the past three months. Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon conducted by Rev. Miller and internment was made in Graceland cemetery. The sympathy of all is extended the bereaved in their hour of sorrow.
Samuel McFarland was born in Ohio, April 15, 1841. He has lived in Hamilton county for many years, having moved to Webster City from Homer three years ago. He was a civil war veteran, having enlisted in the army when he was twenty years of age. He was in many battles during the war but was never wounded.
He leaves his wife and five daughters, Mrs. O. S. Layton of Stratford, Mrs. O. T. Peterson of Arkansas, Mrs. C. E. Near of Wichita, Kansas, Mrs. A. B. Campbell of Sidney, Nebraska, and Mrs. W. C. Andrews of Lehigh; also one son, Earl B. McFarland, who resides near Webster City. There are also six grandchildren and two great grandchildren to mourn his death.
