IOWA FALLS—Norma Van Langen, 89, of Iowa Falls, a former Kamrar resident, died Thursday, Jan. 12, 2006, at the Scenic Manor Care Center at Iowa Falls. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the First Presbyterian Church at Kamrar, with the Rev. John Wilson and Pastor Martha Bennett officiating. Burial will be in the Presbyterian Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Foster Funeral and Cremation Center from 3 until 6 p.m. Saturday and prior to the service at the church.

Norma Ruth Hassebrock, daughter of George and Jennie Bonk Hassebrock, was born Jan. 28, 1916, on a farm southeast of Kamrar. She attended rural school near Kamrar and graduated from Kamrar Public School. On June 5, 1934, she married Elmer James Van Langen at Dubuque. The couple resided at Kamrar. She worked at the Kamrar Grocery for a short time. For 25 years, she was a school cook at the Kamrar Public School, then the Northeast Hamilton School. During this time, she was also cook for the Kamrar Lion’s Club. She retired from Northeast Hamilton in 1979. Mr. Van Langen died May 25, 1987. She continued to reside at Kamrar until 1999 when she moved to the Hilltop Village at Alden. She had resided at Scenic Manor since March of 2003. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church; while at Alden and Iowa Falls, she attended the Alden United Methodist Church. She enjoyed circle activities in both churches. While at the Presbyterian Church, she enjoyed singing with the church quartet.

Mrs. Van Langen is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Mary and Lee Clabaugh of Eagle Grove, Janet and Don Ziesman, Cheryl and Greg Huebner, all of Alden; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by brothers, Guy, George, Theodore, Ralph, Vernon, Ervin and Henry Hassebrock; a brother in infancy; sisters, Katherine Van Langen, Dena Johnson, Louise Arends, Jennie Arends and Etta Fonken.
