Fowler-Lubbers Marriage

Article 1:
Showers for Miss Fowler.

Miss Dorothy Fowler, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Guy Fowler, who will be married Sunday to Mr. Elston Lubbers, of St. Louis, has been honored at several showers this week.

Monday evening Mrs. Howard Wayman entertained a few friends at her apartment at a kitchen shower for Miss Fowler.

Bride was enjoyed with prizes going to Miss Fowler an Mrs. James Berggren. At a late hour a dainty lunch was served. Miss Fowler received many nice gifts.

Last evening Mrs. R. James Berggren entertained 16 friends at her apartment at a miscellaneous shower for Miss Fowler.

Games and contests were enjoyed with prizes going to Alice Hoverstein, Mrs. Alfred Raven and Mrs. Emmett Cayler. During the evening Belva and Beulah Fowler, dressed as a bride and bridegroom, entered as Arlene Fowler played the "Wedding March." They brought in many lovely gifts for the bride-to-be.

Lunch was served later.

Tonight Mrs. Howard Whitson is entertaining a few friends for Miss Fowler.

Article 2:
Webster City- Elston Lubbers, 23, St. Louis, and Dorothea G. Fowler, 19; George M. Wepel, 31, and Richie Ubben, 25.

Article 3:
Marriage Licenses.
The following marriage licenses have been issued in the office of H.O. Cutler, county clerk:
Elston Lubbers, 23, St. Louis, and Dorthea G. Fowler, 19, this city.

Article 4:
Fowler-Lubbers Wedding Oct. 14.
Miss Dorothea Gwendolyn Fowler, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Guy Fowler, of this city, and Mr. Elston Lubbers, son of Mrs. Herman Onken, will be married Sunday Oct. 14 at the home of the bride's parents.

The wedding will be solemnized at noon with the services being read by Dr. J.E. Slocum, brother-in-law of the bridegroom.

Both young people are widely known here.

Article 5:
Miss Dorthea Fowler and Mr. Elston Lubbers are Married at Bride's Home.

Miss Dorthea Fowler, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Guy Fowler, of this city, and Mr. Elston Lubbers, of St. Louis, son of Mrs. Herman Onken, of this city, were married at high noon yesterday at the home of the bride's parents. Dr. J.E. Slocum, of Des Moines, Latter Day Saint pastor, officiated.

Single Ring Service.
Dr. Slocum, who is a brother-in-law of the bridegroom, used the single ring service.

The bride wore a lovely frock of French claret chiffon velvet, and carried a pretty bouquet of sweet-peas. Her attendant, Miss Arline Fowler, wore a dress of rust colored silk crepe with black accessories.

Mr. Lubber was attended by his brother, Mr. Verne Lubbers, of Rockwell City.

Preceding the ceremony, Miss Irene Janson sang "I Love You Truly." She was accompanied by Miss Beverly Miller at the piano. Miss Miller played Mendelssohn's "Wedding March" as the couple took their places in front of a curtain of fern and a large bouquet of yellow chrysanthemums and roses.

The bride was given in marriage by her father.

After congratulations, a delicious three course wedding dinner was served in the Super Maid cafe. The tables were beautifully decorated with cut flowers and pink and yellow nut cups, fashioned like roses. The bride's table was centered with a large white wedding cake, appropriately decorated.

To Live in St. Louis.
Mr. and Mrs. Lubbers left yesterday afternoon for St. Louis where they will make their home. Mr. Lubbers is employed with the Knapp-Monarch company.

Both young people are widely known here and will receive the congratulations of their many friends, who will wish them much happiness.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Guy Fowler, and attended the local schools from which she was graduated with the class of 1932. Since then she has been at home.

Mr. Lubbers is the youngest son of Mrs. Herman Onken, of this city. He has lived here all of his life and has a wide acquaintance. He has been employed in this city until several months ago when he went to St. Louis where he is employed.

Out of Town Guests.
Out of town guests at the wedding were: Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Alfred, Mr. and Mrs. John Fowler, Jr., Mr. and Mrs. Alex Fowler, Mr. and Mrs. John Fowler, Sr., of Blairsburg; Mr. and Mrs. Harrison Rhyan, of Independence, Mo.; Mr. and Mrs. Price Campbell and daughter, of Lake Crystal, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Merle Fowler, of Des Moines; Dr. and Mrs. J.E. Slocum and daughters, Shirley and Jean, of Des Moines.

Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Bell and Mr. and Mrs. Ray Fowler, of Blairsburg; Mr. and Mrs. Harold Flowers, of Humboldt; Mr. Verne Lubbers, of Rockwell City; Miss Irene McBride, of Des Moines; Miss Eleanor Wilkins, of Eagle Grove; Miss Alice McVicker, of Ellsworth; Miss Dorothy Cormaney, of Blairsburg, and Mr. and Mrs. Everett Haislep, of Blairsburg.

No year is given, but as Miss Fowler is a 1932 graduate and only 19 at her marriage, it is probably Oct. 1933/4. From old scrapbook.
