Mr. and Mrs. John Fowler Celebrate Anniversary at Blairsburg Church
Mr. and Mrs. John Fowler celebrated their golden wedding anniversary yesterday at a family dinner served at the Congregational church in Blairsburg to 62 members of the family and friends. Mr. and Mrs. Fowler have been residents in the vicinity of Blairsburg for the past 40 years.
Served at Church.
The guests gathered at the Fowler home and were taken to the church for the delicious wedding dinner, which was served at noon. The meal was prepared by Mrs. L. E. Lubbers, who is pastry cook at the Super Maid cafe, in this city.
The church dining room and reception hall were attractively decorated with crepe paper in a color scheme of gold and green and with bouquets of autumn flowers. The beautifully appointed table which extended the length of the dining hall was decorated in the same colors. The gold and green was used in the flowers, individual nut cups and place cards.
The beautiful anniversary wedding cake, decorated in gold and green candles, centered the table, gold candles were placed at each side. The color scheme was also used in the menu and ice cream. The waiters were Mary, Dorothea and Arlene Fowler, Ruth Ernst, Melvin Bell, Elston Lubbers and John and Francis Fowler. Mr. and Mrs. Harrison Rhyan, of this city, served.

After the dinner a program was enjoyed, as follows:
Talk - The Rev. R.N. Culbertson.
Violin solo - Verna Alford.
Solo, "When Your Hair Has Turned to Silver" - Arlene Fowler.
Quartet, "When You and I were Young Maggie" - Merle Fowler, Beulah Rhyan, Dorothea Fowler, and Guy Fowler.
Duet, "God Will Take Care of You" - Mrs. Rhyan and Dorothea Fowler.
Reading, "The Old Time Wedding Day" - Mrs. A.E. Alford.Mr. and Mrs. Fowler were married at Blairsburg Sept, 27, 1881, and have been residents in the vicinity for 40 years. They resided in Calhoun county the first ten years of their wedded life. Their children, all of whom were present, are Roy Fowler, of Blairsburg; Guy Fowler, of Webster City, and Merle Fowler, of Iowa City.
The couple was remembered with four gold pieces and many beautiful gifts. They also received congratulations over the air and "Silver Threads Among the Gold" was sung in honor of the occasion.
Mr. and Mrs. Fowler are widely known in and about Blairsburg, where they have been active for many years in all the social and community life of the town and its vicinity. A host of friends join the guests at their anniversary celebration in expressing the wish that they may live in health and happiness to enjoy many another year together.
