Marilyn was born on April 4, 1935, to Morten and Marie (Brekenfeld) Sunds in Washington County, Nebraska and moved to Casey, Iowa with her family when she was 4 years old. She was raised on a farm north of Casey and attended Thompson #6 rural country school and graduated from Casey Public High School with the class of 1953. On November 24, 1935, Marilyn was baptized in Washington, Nebraska and later confirmed on May 1, 1949, at the St. John's Lutheran Church in Casey. Marilyn was very active within the church throughout her life having held several positions within the Lutheran Women's Missionary League, Lutheran Ladies Aide and served as the chairperson for several years for the church funeral dinners. This was a source of encouragement and inspiration to her.

She was united in marriage to Donald Warner on June 19, 1955, at the St. John's Lutheran Church and later was blessed with three children. After they married, they moved to Alabama where Don was stationed while in the service, before moving back to Casey to make their home and raise their family. Marilyn worked for several years at the local Casey grocery store and then teamed up with a few other ladies in town to start the wallpapering and painting of homes. Marilyn enjoyed helping others and often would take individuals to their doctor appointments or would just give them a lift around town if they were in need. In 2011, Marilyn was honored to be chosen as the Citizen of the Year. In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening, working in her flower beds and spending quality time with her children and grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, Morten and Marie Sunds, her beloved husband, Don, and one brother, Warren Sunds who passed away just four hours prior to Marilyn. She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her three children, Brenda (LeRoy) Simmons, of Menlo, Glenda Warner (Jack Findley) of Des Moines and Alan (Melanie) Warner of Casey, Iowa; six grandchildren, Tyler Simmons, Kaylan Simmons, Nicole Findley, Cody Findley and Elise Warner; two sisters, Darlene Bassett and Merle of Casey and Kay (White) Olson, of Corvallis, Oregon; several nephews, one niece and a host of dear friends all of whom will miss her greatly. (Arrangements: Johnson Family Funeral Home – Stuart). ~ The Des Moines (IA) Register 04 Dec 2011.
