Bernice Jane Adair, 91, daughter of Joseph Matilda (Kaiser) Vogel, was born September 4, 1920 on a farm north of Panora, Iowa in Cass Township. She passed away Monday, January 30, 2012 at the Guthrie County Hospital, Guthrie Center, Iowa. She attended country school within a half mile of her home. She graduated from Guthrie County High School in Panora, in 1938. Following high school, she helped on the family farm. On August 12, 1946, she married Estal Adair, (the boy next door), at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Jamaica, Iowa. They moved onto a farm about 3 miles away. They lived, worked, and raised their family there for 57 years.

After Estal’s death in 2003, Bernice continued to live on the farm until 2006, moving in with her daughter Ilene and husband David in Panora. She then became a resident at the Panora Nursing Rehab Center in July of 2011. Bernice was a life time member of St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church. She read her way through almost every book in the Panora Library. Every year she tended an acre garden to feed her family and was a great cook. She enjoyed trying new recipes she would find in magazines and newspapers. She also loved family get togethers and dinners.

Bernice will be missed and lovingly remembered by her children, Nancy Jo (Joseph) Gliem of Jefferson; Linda (Ken) Pedersen of Jefferson; Keith Adair of Sioux Falls, SD; and Ilene (David) Olson of Panora. Eight grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Estal, twin brother Bernard, 4 sisters Matilda, Mary Ann, Ernestine, and Rita, and brother Joseph.
