Velma B. Covault, 93, the daughter of Charles and Birtie Laughery, was born in Guthrie County, Iowa, on September 11, 1918. She passed away on January 27, 2012 in Des Moines, Iowa.

Velma graduated from Guthrie Center High School in 1936. On July 19, 1936, at the home of her parents, she was united in marriage to Glen Covault. To this union three daughters were born.

She worked at Guthrie Livestock Auction for over 40 years. She was an Avon representative for 43 years and a regular member of the "Presidents Club." Velma enjoyed many activities such as playing cards, being part of the C.W.F., gardening, cooking her "world famous" brownies, and everything that had to do with family.

Velma is preceded in death by her husband, mother and father, seven brothers, and one sister.

She is survived by her three daughters, Ardis (Gilbert) Torr of Carmichael, CA, Sherry (Ted) Haney of Knoxville, IA, and Jeanie (Brian) Cotter of Pueblo, CO; seven grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday January 30, 2012 at the First Christian Church in Guthrie Center, IA. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday January 29, 2012 at the Twigg Funeral Home in Guthrie Center.
