Longtime and wellknown Highland Township farmer Gerald Kelly died suddenly Saturday morning of an apparent heart attack. He was at his home southwest of Bayard when he was stricken and he was declared dead when the Bayard ambulance crew arrived at the scene.
Funeral services were held from the Bayard Church of Christ Monday at 1:30 p.m. with the minister, LeRoy Guernsey, officiating. Paulette Garwood sang two hymns and was accompanied on the piano by Colleen Poole. The interment was made in the Highland cemetery with the casket being carried by Paul McCool, Karl Nielsen, Ronald Albright, Linn Flook, Joseph Hoyt and Romaine Anderson.
Gerald Kelly was born January 14, 1914, near Guthrie Center and passed away at his home of a sudden heart attack June 11, 1977 at the age of 63 years, four months and 28 days.
He lived all his life in Guthrie county except for 14 years spent in Monroe county.
He was united in marriage to Bernice Hall, November 5, 1939. To this union were born a son, Robert Kelly of Albion, Nebraska, and twins, Jane and Jean Kelly, who died in infancy.
He spent most of his life farming besides working the past 15 years at Franklin Manufacturing in Jefferson.
Preceding him in death besides the twins, were his parents, five brothers, and sisters and one grandson, David Kelly.
He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Bernice; son, Robert; daughter-in-law, Marilyn; grandchildren Cindy and Jason; his mother-in-law, Beatrice Hall; two brothers, Paul Kelly of Davenport and Orville Kelly of Des Moines; two sisters, Mrs. Kenneth (Pauline) Kingery of Menlo and Ethel Chester of Denver, Colo; many nieces and nephews and cousins, and one aunt, Orpha Root of Sioux City.
Gerald was loved by all who knew him.
