The Bayard News Thursday, Aug. 9, 1973

Ralph Marion O’Connell passed away at 8:30 p m in the Veterans hospital in Des Moines Sunday, July 22, after a long illness.
Mr O’Connell was born in Hamilton county near Webster City on September 30, 1901. His parents were Daniel and Alice O’Connell. In 1902 his parents moved to Guthrie county. In 1908 to 1911 he lived with his parents in Woonsocket, South Dakota, then returned to Jamaica, and lived there the rest of his life.
He served in the Army during World War II and was an active member of the Paul Johnson American Legion Post No. 687 of Jamaica.
He was married to Eva McClellan in Bagley December 29, 1945.
He is survived by his wife, Eva, and step children, Mrs Bill (Hazle) Marohn of Des Moines; Pauline McClellan, at home; Mrs Robert (Charlotte) Wallace of Stuart; James McClellan of Eldora and Donald McClellan of Des Moines. There are nine grand¬children: three great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. He has one surviving sister, Mrs Janie Wiedman of Rippey.
He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers and three sisters.
Services were held in the Jamaica Union Church Wednesday morning with interment at the Richland cemetery. Rev Vincent James officiated at the service with the final graveside rites given by the American Legion post of which he was a member.
