Funeral rites for Mrs Cassie Ault, one of Bayard’s oldest natives, were held Wednesday at 11 a m from the United Methodist Church in Bayard. The pastor, A Keith Hauser, officiated.
Born at Bayard February 17, 1889, Mrs Ault was the daughter of Mr and Mrs A J McCord. An active community person, she taught school prior to her marriage and later she was active in church and community affairs.
Mrs Ault spent several years in the Bayard Care Center before her final sickness. She was in the hospital at Carroll when she died last Saturday.
The congregation sang two hymns at the final rites and Miss Lula Games served as organist. The casket was carried by Cliff Tuel, Frank Phelps, Charles Mantz, Estell Peckumn, Eugene Phelps and Edward Kinnick. Interment was made in the Highland cemetery.

Cassie Mae Ault, daughter of Alfred Joseph and Amanda Jane (Fell) McCord was born February 17, 1889, in Bayard and died in St Anthony hospital in Carroll after a prolonged illness on Monday, October 15, 1973, at the age of 84.
She attended public schools in Bayard and vicinity, later attended Cornell College in Mt Vernon in preparation for teaching school which she did in Highland township and also Cottage Grove, Oregon.
On September 8, 1920, she was married to Charles Gordon Ault at Bayard where they made their home. To this union were born three sons; Alfred Louis, Joseph Gordon and Ronald Dwight Ault.
She was an active member of the Bayard Methodist church where she taught Sunday school for many years and was a long time member of Womens Society for Christian Service. She was also a member of Bayard Women’s Club.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon, two sisters, Mrs Raney (Bertha) Watkins and Mrs Edwin (Susie) Adamson. She leaves in mourning three sons, Louis of Bayard; Joseph of Virginia, Minn, and Dwight of Austin, Minn, a sister Mrs Clyde (Pearle) Umphrey of Portland, Oregon; and a brother, Leland McCord, of West Union, nine grandchildren, other relatives and many friends.
