Samuel Kenneth Smith (1927 - 2013)
Guthrie Center

Samuel Kenneth Smith, 86, went to be with Jesus on July 3, 2013. Sam was born in Guthrie Center, IA on June 29, 1927 to Ross and Mary Smith. He attended Guthrie Center High School and served in the US Army after graduation. He was stationed at the Panama Canal.

Sam married the love of his life, Ayleen Maynard, on August 2, 1945. He lived on his farm until June 2013. Some of his loves included Farming, his Grandchildren and hunting. Over the years he served on various boards including the Guthrie Center School Board and he was also a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church for 54 years.

He was preceded in death by his beloved granddaughter, Mandy Jo Clark, his parents and his in-laws Elvis and Louise Maynard.

Sam is survived by his wife of 67 years, Ayleen; children, Tom (Nancy) Smith, Jane (Joel) Clark, and Shirley (Randy) Vonnahme; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren and sisters, Esther Betts and Marlene Wall.

Opportunity for visitation at Twigg Funeral Home in Guthrie Center will be on Sunday, July 8, 2013 from 4 to 7 p.m. and services will be held Monday at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Guthrie Center at 10:30 a.m. with burial immediately following at Highland Township Cemetery in Bayard.

Samuel K. Smith will be missed by family and friends. He will be remembered as the man who loved his God, family, and farm.
