While researching the area along Black Hawk Creek for a brochure project, I came across an item about “faith healers” that lived in Grundy County in the first part of the 20th century in a book called Grundy County Remembers (?). Chief among the names mentioned was Frank Appel. I have read his fascinating obituary and a newspaper article from the time of his death but wondered if there was more information available about him, how he practiced, and his associates. I don’t recall some of the other names mentioned in that book but I gathered their had roots in Germany and may have been passed along. Please share any information you may have.
