Looking for information on my wife's grandparents. Mette Maria (Marie) SCHULTZ married Thorvald PETERSEN in Fredsville in June 1911. Thorvald was a blacksmith who arrived in the United States from Draaby, Denmark in 1902. He has worked with his brother-in-law Fred Sorensen in Cicero, Indiana and in Seattle. Marie was the daughter of Johan and Hansine (SLIFSGAARD) Schultz who had lived in Cedar Falls as early as 1873. The family returned to Denmark for about 15 years before returning to Iowa (Fredsville).
Thorvald took over the blacksmith shop in Dike about 1917. He operated the blacksmith shop on the corner of State and Fourth Streets (one block east of the main Dike corner) from 1917 until retiring in 1957. Daughters Helen and Vera were born in Cicero by 1914; son Earl Oakley was born in Dike about 1921. The Petersens lived in Dike until Marie's death in 1972 (Thorvald passed away in Dike in 1965).
