Funeral Held On Friday For Anna Bakker
Mrs. Anna Bakker passed away Tuesday morning, June 7 at the Ellsworth Municipal Hospital in Iowa Falls due to complications of a stroke. She had been taken to the hospital on Sunday the 5th for treatment. She reached the age of 92 years, 7 months and 16 days.
Funeral services for Mrs. Bakker were held Friday, June 10 at 1:30 p.m. at the First Christian Reformed Church. Pastor John Gorter officiated at the services.
Brian and Jani Knutson sang two selections accompanied by Jane Bakker. Miss Elizabeth Eekhoff was organist. Flower attendants were Mrs. Evert Heikens and Mrs. Delbert Hippen.
Pall bearers were Jerry L. Bakker, Randall Bakker, Mervin Kramer, George Kramer, Greg Bakker, and Neil Bakker. The interment service was held in the First Christian Reformed Church Cemetery.
Anna was born on a farm in Shiloh Township, west of Wellsburg, on October 21, 1890, the daughter of Evert and Steena (Swyter) Ross and received her education in the rural school in the area.
On March 11, 1914, she was married to John G. Bakker at the home of her parents, by the Rev. G. Hoefker. Following their marriage they lived on various farms in the area. In 1946 they retired from the farm and moved to Steamboat Rock where they lived for two years. They then moved to Wellsburg to make their home.
Mr. Bakker passed away on November 29, 1952. On October 3, 1977, she entered the Presbyterian Home in Ackley to make her home.
Mrs. Bakker was a long-time member of the First Christian Reformed Church of Wellsburg having made confession of faith on May 27, 1917.
Survivors include: three sons and one daughter, Gratus Bakker of St. Paul, Minnesota, Mennie Bakker of Iowa Falls, Meint Bakker of Wellsburg, and Mrs. Alice Kramer of Clear Lake; 21 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. John (Rena) Miller of Dike and Mrs. Ebe (Dena) Harms of Wellsburg; and many other relatives and friends.
Preceding her in death were: her parents; her husband; two sons, Evert and Gerriet Bakker; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one great-great-grandchild; three brothers and five sisters, Mrs. Louis (Grace) Bakker, Mrs. William (Meinst) Mudderman, Mrs. Ebbo (Minnie) Heikens, Mrs. Wiert W. (Bertha) Riekena, Albert Ross, Willie Ross, Evert E. Ross, and Mrs. Heike (Tena) Miller.
The Doyen Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
