Evert Mooi, a son of Mrs. L. Mooi of Butler county, in Washington twp., north east of Ackley, died at the family home Tuesday, October 15, 1918. He was one of twins, both of whom were afflicted with the epidemic, Spanish influenza, of which the brother, Dick, passed away the previous week. Evert, who was then seriously sick, continued on in about the same condition until Tuesday when taps sounded for him out of the great world work.

The brothers were born September 2, 1898 and grew up as farmers. In the last registration of men for U.S. service the brothers entered their names and would have been given their assignment next week with other young men of the community. The span of life measured out only twenty years, one month and a few days for them and they are laid at rest at home before experiencing work as defenders of the nation in the larger sense that U.S. soldiers assume.
