Wallace Eugene Palmer, 63, of Grundy Center, Iowa, died Friday, June 7, 2002, at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo, Iowa of natural causes. Family and friends will gather for a time of remembrance from 1 - 5 p.m. on Saturday, June 15 at the home of his sister, Donna and Dick Firgard, located at 6718 Watters Road in Hudson, Iowa. Burial will be at a later date at Ballston Spa Cemetery in Ballston Spa, New York. Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center is in charge of local arrangements. A memorial fund has been established.

Wallace was born June 2, 1939 in Algona, Iowa, the son of Donald and Florence (Jennings) Palmer. Wallace graduated from Ventura high School in 1957. On July 31, 1971 he was united in marriage to Carolyn Wheeler. Wallace served in the United States Air Force for years. He then worked for Kraft General Foods for 30 years. Wallace was a 30-year member of the Union Fire Company in Ballston Spa, New York.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn; a daughter, Susan Palmer, of Grundy Center; his mother, Florence Palmer, Norwalk, Iowa; seven brothers and sisters, James and Vallie Palmer of Whitsitt, N.C., Charis and Emmett Brown of Denver, Colo., Elsie Niemeyer of Norwalk, Trella and Dwane Walker of Denver, Donna and Dick Firgard of Hudson, Susan and Joe Pringle of DeSoto, Wis., and Pat Palmer and Harold Hammond of Coralville, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his son, Robert; his father, Donald; and a brother, Carlton Palmer.
