Gerald D. "Gery" Janssen, 62, of La Porte City, Iowa passed away on Thursday August 13, 2015 at the UPH Allen Memorial Hospital, Waterloo, Iowa surrounded by his family.

A celebration of Gery’s life will be 11:00 AM Saturday August 22, 2015 at the Countryside Vineyard Church, 3467 Lafayette Rd., Evansdale, Iowa with Pastors Bill Van Wey and Joe Fager officiating. Family will greet friends one hour before the service. Memorials may be given to the Gerald D. Janssen memorial fund.

Gery was born February 16, 1953 in Grundy County, Iowa the son Louie George and Mable (Harms) Janssen. He grew up and attended school in Wellsburg and graduated from Reinbeck High School in 1971.

He enjoyed living in Alaska for over twenty years, moving back to Iowa in 2011 to be closer to his family. He enjoyed working at the Adult Crisis Center in Waterloo and being active in his church Countryside Vineyard Church, Evansdale, Iowa.

Gery is survived by his two sisters Sally (Doug) Duesenberg, Clear Lake, Iowa and Maxine Stokes, Dunkerton, Iowa; nephew Bill (Andrea) Duesenberg, Chicago, Illinois; Aunt Mary “Mamie” Stahl, Grundy Center, Iowa; brother in Christ Brian Pastrick, Waterloo, Iowa; family friend Peg Huisman, Rockford, Iowa and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law Tim Stokes.
