Norma J. Stock

Charles City--Norma J. Stock, 89, of 106 Rob Roy Land No. 4, Charles City, died Friday, Sept. 10, 2010 at her home.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Fullerton Hage Funeral Home, 401 Blunt, Charles City. Officiating will be the Rev. Ruth Yeaton of the First Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home and again one hour prior to services on Wednesday. Interment will be 2:15 p.m. in the Washington Township City, Morrison, Iowa, next to her husband.

Norma June was born on Jan. 18, 1921, in Guthrie County, Iowa, on the family farm to Walter and Edith (Brady) Jorgensen. She was the youngest of three children. She graduated from Guthrie Center High School and then taught in rural schools before graduating in 1943 from Iowa Teachers College in Cedar Falls. She then taught elementary school in Redfield, Iowa for several years.

She was united in marriage to Charles E. "Chuck" Stock of Morrison, Iowa, on Nov. 14, 1945, in Troy, Kan. They settled into their early married life in Waterloo, Iowa, where in 1955 their son Tom was born. Because of her husband's agriculture sales positions they lived throughout Iowa and parts of Missouri. In 1973 they made their home in Charles City. Following Chuck's death in 1978 Norma worked at Howlyn's Office Supply.

Her greatest joy came from babysitting neighbors' and friends' children, many who became lifelong friends and still kept in contact with her. Throughout her life she was an independent woman, and along with her husband, enjoyed visiting with family and friends, dancing and playing cards. She served as a Den Mother for the Cub Scouts, attending Tom's extracurricular actives especially band and choir concerts, driving her car until she volunteered to give up her license at age 88, but still remained active and on the go. She enjoyed watching golf and the Kentucky Derby and was thrilled to receive flowers and visitors.

Surviving her include her son Tom and his wife Mary Stock of Sioux City; grandchildren David and his wife Jessica Stock, Jennifer Bolton, Meagan Stock; great-grandchildren Benjamin, Ava, Samuel and Grace all of Waterloo, Iowa; brother-in-law Walter Stock, sisters-in-law Alice Jorgensen, Mary Ellen Stock and Audrey Lear; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Her parents; husband Chuck of 32 years; sister Opal Schlotterbeck; brother Marvin Jorgensen; sisters-in-law Georgia Wilson, Iris Norwood and Flo Stock; brothers-in-law, Lynn Schlotterbeck, Hank and Merle Stock, Fred Scovel and C. J. Lear, preceded her in death.
