Joe M'Coy Died Sunday; Had Been Ill Three Years

Was A Native Of Maryland; Resided In Grundy County For Forty-Six Years.

Joe McCoy died at his home in Morrison at 1:30 Friday afternoon. Cancer was the cause. His health began to fail three years ago. In September 1935 an operation was performed at the Deaconess hospital in Marshalltown which brought relief for several months. But the old trouble returned. He was confined to his home nearly all of the time during the last six months of his life.

Funeral services were held at the Coffman funeral home in Grundy Center Sunday afternoon. The services were conducted by Rev. Roy Whitmore from Williams, Iowa, a former pastor of the church at Morrison. Burial was made in the family plot in the cemetery at Morrison.

The pallbearers were Dr. Sam Coffman, Chicago; Frank Coffman, German Valley, Ill.; Herman Stock, Robert Morrison, Clem Shimer and Cab Buffington. Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Morrison were in charge of the flowers.

Joseph E. McCoy, son of Rigdon and Helen McCoy, was born at Hagerstown, Maryland, August 12, 1868. At the age of five years he moved to Mt. Morris, Ill., with his parents, where he resided until he was 23 years of age. At that time he came to Iowa to make his home. With the exception of a brief residence at German Valley, Ill., he has, since that time, made his home in and around Morrison.

On January 28, 1896, he was united in marriage to Bessie Coffman, at Reinbeck. One daughter, Gleo, was born to this union.

He is survived by his widow, one daughter, Mrs. Gleo Mooty of Cedar Rapids, and one granddaughter, Bonnie Lee Mooty, who made her home with her grandparents. Of his immediate family, the following brothers survive: Claude of Williston, N.D.; and Dick, Jack, and Willis of Santa Monica, Cal. His parents and sister Myrtle preceded him in death.

Those from out of town who were in attendance at the services were Mr. and Mrs. John Fossler of Iowa Falls; Mr. and Mrs. Harry Philpot, Mrs. Fred Schreiber and daughter Sara, and Howard Robert of Cedar Falls; Rineaous Fossler of Chicago; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Coffman and son Floyd of German Valley, Ill.; Frank Clifford of Conrad; Pete Peterson and Melvin Simonsen of Waterloo; Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Reimers of Cedar Rapids and Rev. and Mrs. Roy L. Whitmore of Williams, Iowa.
