Fred Bownes, 82, Rites Saturday

Services were held Saturday, May 1 at the Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center for Fred H. Bownes, 82, of Morrison, Iowa, who died at 11:15 p.m. Wednesday, April 28, 1976 at the Schoitz Memorial hospital in Waterloo.

Rev. Clell Hickman, pastor of the United Presbyterian Church at Reinbeck, officiated. Mrs. Raymond Appel played "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere" as musical interludes. Pallbearers were Carl Dingel, Larry Smith, Harry Cooley, Howard Smith, Bill Smith and Edward Mills. Mrs. Carl Dingel and Mrs. Harry Cooley were flower attendants. Burial was in the Morrison cemetery.

He was born November 24, 1893, at Athelstan, Iowa, the son of Charles and Sarah Kemery Bownes. On September 26, 1916 he was united in marriage to Ida J. Rusco at Marysville, Mo. They lived in Taylor county, Iowa until 1934 when they moved to Grundy county. He did farm work in Tama and Grundy counties until retirement, and then moved to Morrison.

Mr. Bownes is survived by one son, Charles, of Morrison, two daughters, Minnie, and Mrs. Orville (Josie) Mills, one sister, Mrs. Clistie Garland of Fairfield, Calif., four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, three sisters and one grandson.
