Ronald N. Reynolds, 90, of Des Moines, formerly of Ankeny, went to be with the Lord on July 2, 2019. He was surrounded by his wife, Alice (West) Reynolds and his loving family. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, July 5, 2019, at Ankeny First United Methodist Church (206 SW Walnut Street Ankeny, IA 50023). Ron will be buried at a later date at the family cemetery in Whitten, IA.

Ron was born February 24, 1929 to Frank and Olive Reynolds of Whitten, IA. Ron had one sister, Gwendolyn Houser and one brother, Stanley Reynolds. The family moved to Marshalltown, IA in 1930. Ron married the love of his life, Alice (West) Reynolds in 1952. To this union three children were born. Cheryl Weisheit, Craig Reynolds (deceased), and Cristin Wilson.

Ron received his education from the Marshalltown school system. Ron was a baton twirler and marched in the Junior and Senior high school bands and then was the head twirler for the Iowa State University marching band. He graduated from MHS in 1947 and Jr. College in 1950. Ron attended ISU until he was drafted into the Army in 1954. He was in the Army Signal Corp during the Korean War. He was stationed in TX, NJ and Colorado Springs, CO.

Ron learned to play golf when he was 14 years old, from the pro at the Marshalltown Country Club. He loved the game and played his whole life.

After the Army, Ron took a job at Fidelity Bank in Marshalltown. In 1960 he became Assistant Manager of the Mason City, IA Chamber of Commerce. In 1965 he took the job of Manager in Keokuk, IA Chamber of Commerce. In 1969 he became the Manager of the Motor Bank, at the IA D.M. National Bank in Des Moines. The bank became the Wells Fargo Bank in the late 70’s. He was asked to join a group at the Bank and helped start the A.T.M. in D.M. in 1980. Ron retired in 1991.

We moved to Ankeny, IA in 1969 and were happy being with their families again. Alice’s parents deeded their lake cabin in Brooklyn, IA to the couple in 1972 when they retired. The family and friends loved going to the cabin, where they could fish, boat, water ski and what fun at evening bonfires eating s’mores. The lake cabin was a wonderful family get away for all.

Ron and Alice became snowbirds for many winters in AZ, CA, HI and FL. In 2001 they bought a condo in St. Petersburg, FL. When Ron’s health began to fail in 2017 they sold the condo and moved back to Iowa. They rented an apartment in Beaverdale Estates, a residential living community in North Des Moines.

The family recently celebrated Ron’s 90th birthday with a celebration.

Ron used the services of the Des Moines VA Health Care System for all his health needs. He received great care and entered their hospice program in May 2019
