Jane Anne Spurlin was born in Lawrence county, Ind., February 17, 1836, and passed away into the life beyond at the home of her son near Maxwell, Iowa, March 4, being 77 years and fifteen days old.

When a child she moved with her parents to Whiteside county, Ill. At the age of 17 she moved to Grundy county and was married to William Spurlin on December 16, 1856. To this union two children were born--Delphia A. Landis of Union and S. J. Spurlin of Maxwell, Iowa. Besides these she leaves to mourn her loss two sisters--Mrs. E. J. Arthur of Union and Mrs. J. R. Landes of Whitten, and two brothers--J. A. Spurlin of Whitten and Hiram Spurlin of Wyoming and three grandchildren.

Funeral services were held from the Christian church in Whitten, conducted by Rev. Curliss of Union, assisted by Rev. Becker of Whitten. Interment was in the Benson cemetery near Union.
