Daisy V. Long Funeral Friday

Funeral services will be held on Friday, Jan. 16, 1:30 p.m. from the Union Community Church for Daisy V. Williams Long, 84, who died Monday evening at the Eldora Community Hospital.

Officiating will be Rev. Grundy Couch and Rev. Lloyd McDonald with interment in the Benson Cemetery. Biersborn Funeral Home of Union is handling arrangements.

Mrs. Long was born Dec. 14, 1896 in Yadkin County, N.C., the daughter of John and Elizabeth Lynch Williams. She was raised and educated in Iowa, graduating from Floyd (Iowa) high school and attending the Mason City Business College.

She was employed for many years in Des Moines as secretary to the Iowa Legislature and from 1925-35 was secretary-treasurer of the Iowa Farm Bureau Federation. She was very active in the Republican party, having attended four national conventions in her lifetime. These include the Kansas City convention in 1928, the Chicago convention in 1932 (both Republican and Democrat), Cleveland convention in 1936 and the Chicago convention in 1944 where she was an alternate delegate from Iowa's third district. She was the first woman in Iowa to be named a member of the electoral college.

On Oct. 3, 1938 she was married to Charles F. Long in Nashua. He was a long-time Union banker. She was a member of the Union Community Church and active in the Order of Eastern Star. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers, one sister, one half-brother and one half-sister.

Survivors include two step-children, Harris E. Long of Clearwater, Fla., and Helen Conn of Ames; six brothers and sisters, Wallace Williams of Yuba City, Calif., Charles Williams of Live Oaks, Calif., Wade Williams of Union, Mrs. Walter (Elsie) High of Rippey, Mrs. Versa Evans of Sargent, Nebr. and Mrs. Harriet Chestnut of Ft. Dodge.
