Mrs. Thomas Rodd Dies Suddenly
Death claimed another of the old settlers and beloved women of the community, when Mrs. Agnes N. Rodd, widow of the late Thomas Rodd, passed away at her home in Melrose township, Sunday evening about 8:00 o'clock, her death being due to pneumonia following a brief illness of one week.
The funeral services which were held from the home Wednesday morning conducted by Rev. Henry Allhouse, pastor of the Methodist church at Whitten. Interment in the family lot in Benson cemetery.--Conrad Record

Obituary Mrs. Agnes N. Rodd
Agnes N. Whitwood was born August 29, 1840, at Spencer, Tioga county, New York, and died December 10, 1916, at her home near Whitten, Hardin county, Iowa, age 76 years, three months and eleven days.
Agnes N. Whitwood was one of a family of eleven children born to Henrick and Susan Whitwood. Just two of this family are now living, Mrs. Julia Nichols and Mrs. Charlotte Furman, both of Rockford, Ill.
About 1845 Mr. Whitwood moved from Spencer, N.Y., to Illinois near the city of Rockford.
December 1, 1859 the deceased was united in marriage to Thomas Rodd at Burrit, Ill., where they resided for a few years, later moving to Clinton county, Iowa, coming from there to Grundy county, Ia., in 1868, making the trip in a rudely constructed prairie schooner, braving all the hardships of pioneer days.
To this household were born eight children: Arthur, Mary, Susan, Nellie, Gertrude, Asa, Clara and Kate. Four of these, Mrs. Geo. H. Haskin, Mrs. J. H. Moore and Asa Rodd, all of Whitten, Mrs. I. J. Hoffa of Grundy Center, fifteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, beside a host of other relatives and friends are left to mourn the departed.
