Katherine Algood, 90, of Volga, South Dakota, passed away on Saturday, December 8, 2018, at the Brookings Hospital. Following Katherine's wishes, her family will have a private funeral service. There will be a celebration of Katherine's life on Thursday, December 13, 2018, from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Eidsness Funeral Chapel in Volga. Burial will take place the following day in Holland, Iowa, at 3:00 p.m. at the Holland Cemetery.

Katherine Marie Algood was born on October 6, 1928, to George and Katherine (Papkes) Garrett. She grew up in Parkersburg, Iowa, where she attended school. Katherine was united in marriage to Howard Algood, and was blessed with 10 children: Ed, Jim, Sharon, Joe, Dale, Bob, Ruth, Jane, Jana, and Wonda.

Throughout her life Katherine worked on a farm, and as a teacher, but later in life enjoyed working as a cook for SDSU Food Services, the Brookings Hospital, and DakotaSun.

Katherine enjoyed many hobbies including bird watching, embroidery, crocheting rugs, gardening, and especially loved flowers. She was a member of the Christian Reformed Church in Volga for many years.

Katherine is survived by her children: Ed (Virginia) Algood, Jim (Michele) Algood, Sharon Algood, Joe (Rena) Algood, Dale (Karen) Algood, Bob (Brenda) Algood, Ruth (Mike) Boswell, Jane Algood, Jana (Ricky) Krogmann-Crawley, and Wonda Brower; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

Katherine was preceded in death by her parents, George and Katherine Garrett; one great-grandchild; twin sister Betty VanDyke; and a grandson-in-law.

Memorials may be forwarded to the Christian Reformed Church in Volga, South Dakota, or Habitat for Humanity in Brookings, South Dakota.
