Lou Walbaum, 89, of Marshalltown, died Monday afternoon, March 10th, at the Grandview Heights while in their care, his family and the Iowa River Hospice. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 13th, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home with Pastor Hirsch Chizever officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Rose Hill Cemetery at Grundy Center. Friends may call at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday. Memorials may be directed to Iowa River Hospice. The Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Lou and his family.

Born on September 12th, 1918, at his family home in Lincoln Township, Grundy County, Iowa, he was the son of John and Hannah (Beenken) Walbaum, Sr. He received his education in the area country schools. On September 16th, 1939, he was united in marriage to Elizabeth Hoover in Grundy Center. They made their home and farmed near Eldora and later Wellsburg. They moved to Marshalltown in 1962.

Mr. Walbaum opened up a blacksmithing and welding shop in 1950. He started working at Fisher Controls in 1962 and worked there for 19 years before retiring.

Lou was a member of the Center Street Baptist Church and the UAW Retirees.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 68 years, Elizabeth, his children: Kempton (Lavonne) Walbaum and Margaret (Donovan) Geiken all of Marshalltown, seven grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

In death he has rejoined his parents and three brothers, Fred, John Jr. and Richard.
