Mrs. Sentman Dies At Steamboat Rock; Funeral On Mon.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon from the First Baptist Church in Steamboat Rock for Mrs. Frieda A. Sentman, who passed away Friday evening at the Eldora Memorial hospital. She was 77 years old. Her husband passed away only 20 days prior to her death.

Rev. Elton Kirstein and Rev. Harm H. Johnson officiated with burial in the Steamboat Rock cemetery. Pallbearers were Edward Bear, Folkert DeVries, Hie H. Folkerts, John J. Eilers, Ben J. Eilers and Roy Folkerts and flower ladies were Mrs. Dena Hartman and Mrs. Pete Luiken.

Vocals were provided by Mrs. A. E. Luiken, Mrs. John Frerichs Jr. with Mrs. Irvin Gast at the organ. The Andrle and Creps Funeral Home of Eldora handled arrangements.

Frieda Eilers, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Eilers, was born east of Steamboat Rock on May 23, 1888, the eldest of eight children. At the age of 17 years, she began working as a telephone operator and soon after began working in the general store of her uncle in Steamboat Rock.

On Jan. 8, 1909, she was united in marriage to Charles Sentman, editor of the Steamboat Rock Pilot. After several years in the newspaper business and one year of farming, the couple started a general store in Steamboat Rock. Twenty-five years later they opened a second store at Wellsburg which they operated until retirement in 1964. They spent 52 years together in the store business.

In 1918, Mr. and Mrs. Sentman entered into the fellowship of the Steamboat Rock Baptist Church under the ministry of Rev. A. G. Lang.

Survivors include one son, Carl of Bemidji, Minn.; one granddaughter, Mrs. Clarice Meyers of LaGrange Park, Ill.; one grandson, Paul Sentman of Mason City; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Dena Bear of Steamboat Rock and Mrs. Anna DeVries of Aplington; and two brothers, Ben Eilers of Clarion and John Eilers of Des Moines. She was preceded in death by her husband.
