Florence D. Meyer Succumbs Fri. In M'Town Hospital
Mrs. Florence D. Meyer, 76, a lifelong resident of Wellsburg, died Friday evening at Evangelical hospital in Marshalltown of a heart ailment.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Grace Evangelical United Brethren Church in Marshalltown, followed by burial in Riverside cemetery.
Mrs. Meyer was stricken at her home in Marshalltown last Thursday and was admitted to the hospital.
Florence Doyen was born September 24, 1887 at Wellsburg, the daughter of Jurgen C. and Joanna C. Neessen Doyen. She spent most of her life in Wellsburg. She attended Ellsworth College at Iowa Falls.
She was married to Andrew A. Meyer in August, 1909, and he died in 1935. She continued operation of their grocery store until 1940, then operated nursing homes at Wellsburg and Marshalltown. She also is a former home mother at Evangelical School of Nursing.
Mrs. Meyer was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary of Wellsburg, Woman's Relief Corps, the Golden Age Club and Grace EUB church.
She is survived by one son, Oran D., of Marshalltown; a brother, John Doyen Sr., of Wellsburg; two sisters, Mrs. Peter (Dena) Peters of Worthington, Minn., and Mrs. J. C. (Louise) Hileman, Waterloo; three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her parents, two brothers and three sisters.
